Its Norman duomo, Teatro Romano, and Santo Carcere church are worth a visit. Catania is most convenient, though, as a point of departure for Mount Etna, by far this area's most spectacular attraction. Although the volcano is still active, you can view it in comfort via the Circumetnea railroad, which runs around the base. Further north is Taormina, Sicily's most picturesque town.
