About The Experience
Few places can compare to the charm of this Tuscany villa rental near Arezzo, great for a family with kids. Nestled among the hills amidst trees and grass, you'll feel you've arrived at the quintessential Tuscan experience. You can explore small villages near this farmhouse in Tuscany, venture into Arezzo, which is where the movie "Life is Beautiful," starring Roberto Benigni, was filmed, or travel further for day trips to Cortona or Lake Trasimeno. You will also enjoy wandering the countryside, on foot, in a car, or on horseback while staying at this farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany.
Location Description
This Tuscany holiday home is located south of Arezzo in a peaceful position, ideal for taking walks through the natural surroundings. However, it is also just 3.5 km from a small commerical centre with basic food shops, and horseback riding is also available nearby. Arezzo, the setting for Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful," is a city characterized by a beautiful array of architectural styles, from Etruscan ruins to the Roman amphitheatre and the Medici Fortress. The first weekend of each month features a popular antique fair, while annually the town hosts a festival called "Joust of the Saracens," where all of the citizens dress in medieval attire to watch "knights" charge at a target (representing the Saracen king). The location of this holiday home is also well situated to day trips throughout Tuscany, including nearby Cortona and Lake Trasimeno, as well as Florence and Siena.
Lake Trasimeno: 35 km
Cortona: 23 km
Arezzo: 8 km
Olmo (shops): 3.5 km

    Overall:
Our group was looking for a clean, reasonably priced home base for day trips and Mulino sul Colle, an old mill, certainly met that need.
    Enjoyed Most:
The property is located on a hillside olive orchard and was as beautiful as the photos indicate.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
The house is large, drafty, and chilly. In the summer this would be an advantage. In the fall/winter it is tough.
    Surrounding Area:
The town was nice enough, but it was very close to the main highway that is used to get to Siena, Florence, Volterra, etc...
    Nearby Events or Locales:
Arezzo is very nearby, however walking there would be dangerous as it is located on a 50km road without sidewalks.
    Tips or Restaurants:
There is an amazing restaurant (brochure in the house) that has the most amazing barbequed chicken I have ever eaten.
    Check In Out:
The owner is a WONDERFUL host.

    Overall:
The directions on driving to the villa were very good. We found it with no problem. The house is beautiful and exactly what you dream about. It is charming and romantic. The kitchen is well stocked, large, and fun to cook in plus it has a wonderful view. I would have my morning coffee hanging out the window looking over the valley each day. Nadia is a sweet and helpful host.
    Enjoyed Most:
The patio is absolutely beautiful. We ate outside many times and just hung out reading or playing on the computer. There is WiFi which the boys loved for checking football scores. The olive orchard looks like a postcard it is so pretty. The kitchen is huge, so we enjoyed cooking several meals there.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
One of the bathrooms had very dim lights so I had to use the other couple's bathroom for make up application, but that took just 5 minutes a day. We were well warned about the bugs, so we had our own DEET and it works just fine.
    Surrounding Area:
The location is wonderful because you are in the middle of Tuscany. Any city you want to visit is within an hour. It is in the country so it's very quiet and peaceful. The church up the hill has an interesting cemetery with pictures on the gravestones. It was the opening of hunting season for wild boar the day we arrived so we heard several shotgun shots through out the week. While we wanted to see the boars, they were hiding pretty well from those hunters.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
Arezzo is the nearest town but you must drive about 10 minutes or you can catch a bus. Nadia was helpful in explaining how to get bus tickets.
    Tips or Restaurants:
We wished we would have brought a deck of cards or Yatzee or some movies for the DVD. CDs for the kitchen while your're cooking would be nice too. Nadia recommended the 2 restaurants we went to and they were fantastic. Ask her about the one in Civitella in Val di Chiana. It is the town across the valley on top of the hill that you look at through the kitchen window. We loved TasteVin in Arezzo too.
    Directions:
We did not have a GPS, but we wished we would have for visiting the little towns.
    Check In Out:
You do have to pay for your electricity and gas and a cleaning service. There were four people in our group and the total bill was 100 Euros. We were conservative with the lights but we did many loads of laundry. Nadia provided laundry soap, but I brought the 3 in 1 sheets by Purex and they made the laundry softer. Nadia explained all of the charges ahead of time, so we didn't have any surprises.
