Located on one of the larger working farms in this region, this property comes under the Italian category of “agritourismo.” It is situated in a beautiful rural position, but its place between Siena and Florence also makes this a great jumping-off point for day trips throughout Tuscany. The nearest village is Staggia, a beautiful little walled town with a castle overgrown with greenery. Here you'll also find the basics, from food to a post office and a café. Nearby Siena is a treasure trove of medieval architecture and authentic Tuscan culture-- including the famed annual bareback horserace! Other great locales in the region include San Gimignano, Volterra, and Florence.

(35 Hectares) This apartment is located on a working farm that produces wine, olive oil, Vinsanto, and grappa, as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring, are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse, in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments, each with its own entrance. The house is located on a hilltop, affording a panoramic view over the hills of the Chianti district. Surrounding the house is a communal garden and shared swimming pool (14m x 7m). There is also a cement tennis court in the center of the farmstead (racquets are available). A large barbecue and covered dining table are the center of the communal area, along with ping-pong, children's games, a play house, a slide, and a swing. Small individual tables and barbecues are also provided for the convenience of individual families. A selection of mountain bikes is available for use. A large parking area is located in front of the house, and there are shared laundry facilities.
At the completion of the harvest season, a celebration is held, during which all guests are invited to sample the many flavors and products of the land. In the cantina (cellar), run by the head of the family, there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use. The owner's family occupies a separate unit in the farmhouse building. The family cares for the garden and provides homemade baked pastries as part of the welcome extended to new guests, or in celebration of special events.

Overall:
We were pleased to find this property, and cannot recommend it enough! Look forward to going back!
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet. Pool! Close to Siena and Poggibonsi. Wine. Oil!! Accommodations were too big for us! Owners very friendly and available whenever needed!
Unpleasant Surprises:
No big spoon in kitchen to stir pasta sauce!
Surrounding Area:
Very easy back roads to Siena, Poggibonsi, San Gimignano, Volterra... Beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia about 1.5 km away but not really walkable as no sidewalk along road.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack your suitcases at home, then leave half. You can wash your clothes and dry them overnight, or wear only bathing suit if spending the day at the pool. And you can save some room for purchases. Make sure you have enough to eat, as most likely you will arrive on Saturday, and stores closed 19:30 Saturday night and all day Sunday. BUT, we found a big grocery store open on Sunday in Poggibonsi 5 km away. You can always find restaurants, but Sunday morning breakfast would otherwise only be coffee.
Directions:
The entrance is off a bend curve in the road, so drive slowly, otherwise you will go past it.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was in the countryside with olive trees and a vineyard. It was great to be on a working farm.
Unpleasant Surprises:
No AC with hot summer nights.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is beautiful. The Chianti vineyards were easily accessible as was Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was not with in walking distance, but it did have an excellent grocery.

Overall:
We loved it so much. We would return in a heartbeat. It was the perfect spot for travelling with kids, and in general. The family that runs the property are just the best, warm, helpful, friendly! We highly recommend it!
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds and the views are truly beautiful, casual and very welcoming. The wine and olive oil room was well used by our crew. Anyone who stays MUST have a few meals on site. Just amazing, fresh, delicious!!! It is also a great option for kids. Ours loved it. It is so safe and we felt completely comfortable with the kids.
Unpleasant Surprises:
We loved it! The villa itself was not fancy, but perfectly fine. The experience as a whole was just perfect.
Surrounding Area:
Great proximity to beautiful hill towns, we also went to Florence for a day. We travelled around a lot.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is closest. I suppose you could walk it, but we didn't with the kids. The villa is set very high on a hill, and it would have been too much of a trek for kids.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were very well provided for. We did a shop at the Coop grocery store and bought food, coffee, storage bags, toilet paper, etc.
