Perpignan, the capital of Rousillon, has a strong Catalan identity; in the summer, residents dance the Sardana twice weekly, an important Catalan tradition. Interesting city sights in Perpignan include the Palais des Rois de Majorque and Loge de Mer. Narbonne is an excellent destination for lovers of wine and antiquity alike. Not only can you visit many of the many countryside wineries, but you can also see the Horreum, a network of 1st century underground granaries and grain chutes that date back to Narbonne's origins as a Roman province. Situated above the Aude River, Carcassone is a beautiful walled medieval town that was originally settled in the 2nd century BC. Restored in the 19th century, the town is incredibly well-preserved.
