Overall:
Our experience at this villa was exceptionally good.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved everything about Casa Toto and the charming town of Praiano. The views from the balconies are spectacular and the house is extremely comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the patio, watching the neighbors work in their gardens while listening to the bells from the clock tower of San Gennaro.
From the bedroom balcony we watched the sun set behind the hills of Positano. Cooking our own meals in the lovely, well equipped kitchen was absolutely delightful.
Enjoyed Least:
There isn't one single thing about this property that we did not like.
Surrounding Area:
The little town of Praiano is quiet and peaceful and the people are friendly. Riding the SITA bus to Positano, Amalfi and Vietri Sul Mare was easy and fun.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do not miss Il Refugio which is just across the street from the villa. Aldo and his wife Laura are the sweetest couple and the food is without a doubt the best we've found anywhere in Italy.
Check In Out:
Antonietta, our local Rentvillas agent, was extremely helpful. She provided us with lots of historical information and local maps with suggestions on what to see and do.
Betty , March
Overall:
We greatly enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the view.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Praiano is very interesting.
There are many locals and not an overwhelming number of tourists.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa was located near the center of Praiano. We did not have a rental car in Praiano.
We used the SITA buses that stopped at the bottom of the street to go to Positano, Sorrento, and Amalfi.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed meeting Alda and Laura who run the Trattoria Il Rifugio that is right near the exit from the property.
Directions:
We used the Barbaro Car Service to take us to and from the train and plane in Naples. They met us, and delivered us to meet with the rental agent.
There are two entrances to the villa. Both are off the road. One is down a flight of stairs, and the other is 100 m down a walkway that also provides access to other houses.
Check In Out:
The owner lives next door, and is very pleasant, but does not have much English. The local agent, who is fluent in English, was there to meet us and greet us.
Kenneth, October
Overall:
Marvelous.
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the bedrooms and the outside verandas--too much (meaning very, very good!)
Enjoyed Least:
The long, long, long hill from the bus stops in town to the villa---but since we conquered the hike up Mt Vesuvius, we were able to handle it okay. The steps to the beach were a different issue--almost impossible to do more than once.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet, quaint, church nearby, easy access to buses.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano. Yes but going was easier than coming back---HILL.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was nothing that we needed to bring except personal items. All the outdoor restaurants on the entire coasts, including Positano, Amalfi, Agerola, and Praiano were reasonable and tasty.
Directions:
Thankfully we decided NOT to Drive!!! Used car and driver from Naples AP, and same from villa to Naples RR station Also used a car and driver to visit friends in nearby Agerola---never would have found it on our own. Best bet is to get phone number of place you are going, give it to the driver, and let him get directions in Italian from the party at the place. Worked like a charm--the drivers know all the little side roads, and twists and turns once they communicate with the designated person.
Check In Out:
No, went fine, no problems.
Robert, September
Overall:
Our experience was excellent. Well located, excellent view, beautiful property, private, very comfortable. If I went back to Praiano, I'd like to stay here. Having private parking was a real benefit even thought it cost us.
Enjoyed Most:
Property was as beautiful as the view.
Enjoyed Least:
The barking dog and the kitchen was minimally equipped.
Surrounding Area:
Easy drive to just about everywhere from Naples to Sorrento and of course everywhere on the Amalfi Coast.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There are so many small towns I cannot remember their names. Of course the nearest ones are walkable although we never tried to go there. The main road was rather dangerous for pedestrians.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellent depending on the season. There are about 4-5 good restaurants in town that took less than 5-10 minutes to walk to.
Directions:
I did have GPS. The address was easy to find on Google Maps.
Check In Out:
The in/out process was perfect. We were met by a charming person and she was excellent to deal with.
Tom, September
Overall:
Excellent--everything was even better than we expected. This villa exceeded our expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular! The location was great. The villa was ideal for 2 couples.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery, restaurants, bus transportation to local areas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was the small town and it was within walking distance. The walk to the town was easy, but there was a steep incline to get back to the villa. We expected this and we were in shape so it wasn't a problem.
Tips or Restaurants:
We searched for coffee filters and never could find the ones we needed. Bring some cone shaped filters. All the restaurants we tried were great.
Directions:
We used a GPS and had no problems. We didn't realize there was parking at the bar and found another place to park. It was great having paid parking near the villa. We didn't expect this, but it was great. We had no worries about where to park and we knew the vehicle was safe.
Check In Out:
Check in/check out was very smooth. The book in the villa was great and included everything we needed. It was nice to have the other pamphlets of what to do in surrounding areas.
George, September
Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the view, the view! Dramatic and outstanding. Looking over Positano during the day was gorgeous, but stunning at night. And not too many steps!
Enjoyed Least:
No wine glasses.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet and less 'touristy' than Positano. Some excellent restaurants and produce shops.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano. Only 12 km but walking on the roadway. Not ideal.
Tips or Restaurants:
Mosquito repellent is a must. We were eaten alive at night.
Directions:
Good instructions to property. No GPS needed as we arrived by bus and cab.
Check In Out:
Both were easy and convenient. Local agent was easy and accommodating.
Lisa, September
Overall:
Beautiful view to go along with beautiful apartment. Perfect location for day trips to surrounding towns.
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet. And views obviously.
Surrounding Area:
The local restaurants and grocery store. One Fire Beach!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano. Not walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Sunscreen for apartment. Best restaurant La Strada. Best drinks and people watching - Cafe Sole.
Directions:
We arrived by hired driver.
Check In Out:
Went smoothly. No issues.
Jody, July
Overall:
This villa was beyond what I expected. As we ate our dinner on the balcony overlooking the sea, the sound of distant church bells and faint voices wafting over the sea made for a relaxing meal with a glass of local wine. The rooms were spacious and clean. The villa was very private. I would recommend this location.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved the villa but the view was my favorite thing.
Surrounding Area:
Praiano is not as busy as the 2 neighbouring towns. We enjoyed the local stores with the fresh food as well as the local restaurants. We enjoyed day trips to Pompeii, Capri, Ravello, Positano and Amalfi. Transit was quite efficient.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Shops were within a 5 to 10 nminute walk
Tips or Restaurants:
I can't remember the name, but the restaurant we liked best was half-way through town, on the left. Terrace overlooked the sea. We ate most of our dinners at the villa.
Directions:
We took a taxi from Salerno. Antonietta was helpful with directions to the driver.
Check In Out:
It went quite well. We really had no problems.
Joan, July
Overall:
Our overall experience at Casa Toto was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the decks.
Enjoyed Least:
The climb up the hill or stairs. No door on the second bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
After the first week, we almost felt like locals in Praiano as the shopkeepers recognized us and made us feel welcome.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano. Yes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eat at Vivaro. Don't forget an A/C adaptor.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS and could have used better directions for getting out of Naples.
Check In Out:
It is very hard to park when meeting the key holder in downtown Praiano. Coordinate by cellphone (RentVillas provides the number) for a precise meeting time.
Colin, May
Overall:
While we were in the apartment it was very nice--great view, comfortable beds, extremely spacious place for just the the two of us. But we traveled so much we were hardly ever there except to have a late dinner and sleep at night all week!
Enjoyed Most:
The view--just breathtaking, calming and peaceful. We also enjoyed feeling like we were living in a real town, among the Italian people. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, despite us being overtly tourists!
Enjoyed Least:
The location--it was an awkward apartment to get to off the main road, and while we love a physical challenge (i.e. the many steps leading up to the apartment from the main road), I can see how that would not appeal to some, especially if you have knee problems! To us it was invigorating and helped us to then indulge guilt-free every day in all that great Italian food and wine!!
Surrounding Area:
Geographically, over the week we travelled up and down the Amalfi Coast, from Naples to Paestum, which required many hours of bus travel on slow coast roads and also many trains, which took us away from the apartment almost all day every day. So, for us, Praiano wasn't as convenient a town as we could have chosen to stay in. But we loved the small town "real" feel of it, the many great restaurants, the people and the setting very much!
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved La Strada restaurant. I think we ate there four times! Lorenzo is an excellent waiter, the menu was expansive, every entree was delicious, reasonable prices, the views amazing from their roof top, and so convenient to the apartment. Definitely our favorite restaurant in Praiano.
I kept reading about mosquitos/bug etc and warnings to bring bug spray etc. We never had an issue with that at all.
We had a hard time finding coffee filters for the coffee pot, so I would recommend bringing them! Other than that you can find everything else you need in the local markets.
Tory, May
Overall:
The best vacation we have ever taken, surely a repeat trip for next year.
Enjoyed Most:
Casa Toto was everything we could have asked for. We really were immersed in the local culture. Within walking distance to the local market and all the fresh produce, plus the local cafe' where the residents of Praiano stop daily for cappuccino and conversation. The view from any window is amazing.
Surrounding Area:
The people in Praiano and the surrounding area are wonderful. We were treated like family.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano, and yes very close. The villa is actually in the village.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant Bar Mare at Marina di Praia is the most wonderful culinary experience, located on the beach tucked back in a cove, the view is amazing, and a good place to swim, snorkel, or catch a boat to anywhere on the Amalfi Coast.
Directions:
Have a driver pick you up from the airport. RentVillas set this up for us.
Check In Out:
Try to schedule your arrival for the morning or early afternoon. We arrived around 8:30 and everything was great. Make sure to call when you arrive at the air terminal so someone can meet you for check-in.
Gregory, October
Overall:
Absolutely among the top vacations ever. My friends and I travel a lot and Italy was on the list of must-sees. We originally thought Tuscany but chose the Amalfi Coast and we are so glad we did. I would recommend this area to anyone.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was well-furnished and clean. The view from our balconies were breathtaking.
Enjoyed Least:
The mattresses were harder than I am used to but the good far outweighed that fact.
Surrounding Area:
The quiet peaceful town suited us just fine and the people were helpful and friendly.
Tips or Restaurants:
You must try the Wine Bar in Praiano. It was the best food we had during our visit and the owner is a one man show.
Directions:
We traveled by taxi and it was money well spent.
Check In Out:
Very easy and painless.
Connie, October
Overall:
Overall we really enjoyed the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were breathtaking. If I could have done it, I would have put my bed out on the small terrace and slept out there!
Enjoyed Least:
Just having a curtain to close off the 2nd bedroom was not very effective for noise and comfort, especially with it being right off the living room.
Surrounding Area:
The Amalfi coast was beautiful. Praiano is a quiet little town with great places to just sit or have a glass of wine and unwind with the views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Praiano, so we were able to walk into the town center. The road up to the property was steep, so you have to be fairly fit to climb it.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was well-equipped and both bathrooms contained blow dryers.
Directions:
We had hired a driver from the Naples train station to the property.
Sherry, September
Overall:
Beautiful setting and we had a wonderful time exploring Praiano.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor terraces were amazing and offered wonderful vistas.
Enjoyed Least:
The walk up hill to the apartment!
Surrounding Area:
Located in between Portofino and Amalfi, so it was conveniently located.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lots of good restaurants in town with very accommodating service. Loved the Cafe Sibilla for morning espresso and croissants. We liked the L'hosteria Pinon, The Strade and, in Portofino, Cafe Black.
Directions:
We had a driver drop us off but it was easy to find.
Check In Out:
Arriving after a long day of travel, we had to drag our suitcases up hill for quite a distance and then up and down stairs to get to the apartment.
Cathy, September
Overall:
We had an amazing week. Incredible weather and the villa is very close to all amenities. Morning cappuccino at La Sibilla bar. 5 min walk to supermarkets and butcher shops.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was breathtaking.
Enjoyed Least:
Having to pay for air-conditioning was annoying. It would have been intolerable without it and after you have paid top price for peak season, it really should be included. The long uphill trek from the beach was rough, but we got used to it.
Surrounding Area:
The Gavitella beach was very beautiful and the water was clean and refreshing.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano...very conveniently located.
Tips or Restaurants:
You'll need spices and sugar, unless you buy them there. Otherwise the villa is very well stocked. San Gennaro Pizzeria was good for pizza but the pasta was disappointing.
Directions:
Used a GPS and no problems
Pierina, July
Overall:
Amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and friendly neighbors!
Surrounding Area:
The beaches, the restaurants, and the proximity to Positano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano; it is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Strada restaurant was good, especially the desserts. Bring beach towels and flashlights.
Jennifer, July
Overall:
Our best vacation ever. We loved the villa because it was very charming and spacious. We loved Praiano because it was quaint, quiet, beautiful and not at all touristy.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was amazing from both terraces. The villa was a short walk to town.
Enjoyed Least:
The bed was way too hard for me. We could have used a few beach towels.
Surrounding Area:
The people in Praiano were so friendly and helpful. They were proud of their little village and kept it clean and nice. The steps down to the beach were challenging but fun. Great exercise after indulging in all the delicious food and wine!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was spread out, so we walked over to the other beach by the marina. Beautiful rocky beach with restaurants everywhere.
Directions:
The driver picked us up at the airport. He was easy to spot with a sign with our name. No worries or troubles...we all slept on the way to the villa. When we woke up we had arrived at the most beautiful place on earth!
Check In Out:
A very pleasant lady met us and gave us the key and answered our questions about getting around the area.
Helena, June
Overall:
We really enjoyed our week in Praiano. Casa Toto was ideally located to the village and well serviced by local buses. It suited us well with separate living areas and we took advantage of the outdoor areas as much as possible.
Enjoyed Most:
We found the kitchen well set up and felt as though we were really in Italy if we ate in there. The windows looking out to local gardens and the more distant views of the Mediterranean, villages, churches etc. was something we will never forget and we have dozens of photos to prove it.
Enjoyed Least:
If there was a criticism it would be that the insects were very prevalent. We left a can of insect spray and hope it remains there for any following guests. The only other suggestion we have is that WiFi would a nice addition.
Surrounding Area:
The local restaurants were good, the bus trips amazing and terrifying, the weather wonderful, and the breezes wafting through the villa in the evenings unforgettable.
Elaine, June
Overall:
The view of the Amalfi coast from the two terraces was breathtaking. The location of the property high above the sea gave us privacy and was very peaceful.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy and wonderful views. Also, the location very close to the center of Praiano.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathrooms, while spacious, require updating. There was no shower enclosure in the larger bath nor were there sufficient linens for our stay. Editor's Note: The property is equipped with one set of bed linen and one set of towels per person (one bath towel plus one medium and one small towel). Extra changes are avaialable for 12 Euros per person.
Surrounding Area:
It was desirable to be in a small, quiet town like Praiano that had some good quality restaurants and cafes in the area but still retains a quiet charm.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Located in Praiano.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Brace is a wonderful restaurant within walking distance. I would recommend asking for additional linens and would consider requesting additional housekeeping for your stay.
Directions:
We had a GPS, although the directions were very good.
Drew, June
Overall:
We had a wonderful stay. Our pickup at the Naples airport was prompt. Our drive to the property was quick and efficient. We were met at the property by the key holder who led us into the property and oriented us to Casa Toto.
Enjoyed Most:
The location. The views from the patios were spectacular. We liked being in Praiano which was quieter, but still near to Amalfi, Positano and other sites we wanted to visit.
Enjoyed Least:
We were perfectly satisfied with the property. The only thing we can think of is the lack of a towel rack in the smaller bathroom. This minor thing lets you know how really satisfied we were.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful views. Closeness to several very nice restaurants. Easy access to the bus for travel to other sites.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano. Yes, we were right in its midst.
Tips or Restaurants:
Che Bonta right at the bottom of the hill was wonderful. We ate there several times. The food was great and the prices good. Il Pina was excellent as well, but it was quite expensive. Virtually everything we needed was either in the villa or could be purchased at the grocery stores nearby.
Check In Out:
Filamina met us on the road when we arrived, walked us to the property, and explained everything about it.
James, May
Overall:
Just great!
Enjoyed Most:
Choice of colors inside.
Enjoyed Least:
None.
Surrounding Area:
It was calm and quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes. The hill was not as bad as described in some other reviews.
Tips or Restaurants:
Consider Casa Toto! Excellent.

Overall:
Parking was difficult.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
Owner resides in the same building.
Surrounding Area:
We found an Internet cafe nearby.
Kiyomi, April
Overall:
We had a great time. The Amalfi coast is amazing. We did
hire a driver or took a bus for travel. The driver spoke
English well which made it a lot easier for us to decide
where we wanted to go, and he was very knowledgeable regarding local restaurants, etc.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was central to most of the coast and within
easy walking distance to a lot of good food and scenery.
Adequate size for four people.
Enjoyed Least:
Smoke from fires below the villa where people were burning
refuse was a daily problem especially if the wind was off the water. The neighbor is a loud sleeper.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to like? It is an amazing place to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was only a couple minutes from the villa either
direction.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely buy/bring bug repellant. Pino restaurant is great.
Directions:
We had a driver. There are 2 ways to get down to the property from the road. You do not have to use many of the
steps if you do not want to as there is a pathway that
takes you to the front gate a little further down the road.
Lanny, October
Overall:
We had a fabulous stay at Casa Toto.
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the 2 decks and the proximity to the main street with the bus stop, grocery store, and restaurants. The information booklet was very helpful and informative other than the fact that there was no map for Praiano!
Enjoyed Least:
It would have been nice to have a few staples such as sugar and dish soap.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! We loved the peace and quiet of Praiano, yet it was still just a short bus ride to Positano. We really enjoyed the beach at Praiano as well since it was less busy than the beach at Positano and had a nicer swimming area. The walk up all of those stairs on the way back was good exercise!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We didn't really consider walking to the closest town (Positano) since the bus system was so efficient and accessible.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was well supplied overall, other than sugar and dish soap. They did provide laundry detergent. We really enjoyed La Brace restaurant.
Directions:
Unfortuately, the person who was supposed to meet us on our arrival in Praiano was a little late due to circumstances beyond her control so we had to wait at a restaurant for awhile. It would have been nice to have directions to the villa so we could have at least dropped off our luggage.
Check In Out:
The person who initally checked us into the villa did not speak any English, but another lady met up with us later the same evening to go through everything.
Jane, July
Overall:
Very good. Everything was as pictured. No problems.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
No English language T.V., such as CNN or BBC.
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful. Lots of great restaurants and central to other locations of interest.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano. It is not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Pino is the best restaurant. Watch out for the taxi drivers as they charge well.
Directions:
We had a driver. There was some confusion regarding the name of the villa (it is referred to locally by a name other than the one on RentVillas.com) when friends came to meet us.
Kym, June
Overall:
Amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
nothing
Surrounding Area:
Some great resturants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You need to take the bus to reach Positano.
Marilyn, May
Overall:
Excellent - only challenge was the uphill walk from the center of town
Enjoyed Most:
The view - the outside porches were a plus.
Enjoyed Least:
The walk from town - but once we got up the hill - the villa was nice. Could have had Internet - we had to go to town to use our computers.
Surrounding Area:
Some great scenery - and some great local restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes, a short walk into town, but at a 45 degree angle - you need to be in shape.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't rent a car - find a taxi or car service to get from Naples. The roads are one and a half lanes, but buses meet and pass on them. The bus service to visit the area takes some time to get used too. Several different kinds of service - local - semi-local - school - tourist.
Directions:
No problem with getting to the Villa. Used the car service provided by Rent Villas- but you need a cell phone. The manager spoke excellent English and that was appreciated.
Check In Out:
Manager did a good job and was on time.
Jill And Phil, October
Overall:
We LOVED Casa Toto. It was a lovely, comfortable and centrally located base to explore the Amalfi coast from.
Enjoyed Most:
The breathtaking view and the balconies to enjoy it from.
Enjoyed Least:
The noisy refrigerator that we didn't hear in the bedrooms, thank goodness!!. It also would of been good to have had some towel rails in the bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
The villa was only 5 mins walk to the bus stop, information centre, grocery store, bars and restaurants. We loved walking down to the beaches and getting fit!! we counted 1089 steps down to the beach!. Ravello was probably our favourite town on the Amalfi.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was walking distance as per above.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought salt and pepper, soap and soap powder with us. Everything else we needed we bought at the local grocery store and butcher. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking in.
We would highly recommend Hosteria il Pino, a lovely little restaurant, and the best food we had on the Amalfi. Best to made a reservation.
Directions:
We drove a rental car to the Casa Toto and used a GPS for directions. We hired a parking space which was only 3 mins walk from the villa. It was fenced, with a securely locked gate.
Karen, October
Overall:
We had excellent time and Casa Toto was a big part of making it so enjoyable.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was breathtaking. The kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom was huge.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were a little stiff.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Praiano was a great location to explore the Amalfi Coast. The towns people were very friendly and helpful. Praiano had everything we needed. We were able to enjoy the San Gennaro Festival with the locals. What treat to see the town's pride and togetherness. Something we miss here in the states.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was about 300 meters downhill.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are planning a trip to Amalfi Coast, take the time to get into shape. There are a lot of stairs and walking. Use the bus system. It is easy to navigate.
Bar Del Sol was a great place for a drink. We enjoyed Trattoria San Gennaro. We would highly recommend Hosteria il Pino Praiano and Voce Del Mare in Vietri Sul Mare
Directions:
I would recommend GPS while driving in Italy. It helped and also cut down the arguing in the car.
David, September
Overall:
It was perfect for us. Praiano is a charming little, non-commercial town. Casa Toto was the best!
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular.
Enjoyed Least:
The only slight problem we had was no fault of the property. It was in the middle of a neighborhood with lots of backyard gardens. Many nights and mornings one villager or another would burn their brush. The smoke was bad a few times and woke us up. We left our windows closed when these fires burned. Although it goes along with being in semi-rural Italy, we were surprised by it and shouldn't have been.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the hiking on the Path of the Gods, easy access to Amalfi and Positano, several good restaurants nearby, shops nearby, we felt like being part of the town. And did I say THE VIEW.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Praiano
Tips or Restaurants:
The home was very well equipped. We really needed nothing, except the food etc. and we did enjoy eating in several nights on our terrace.
If you want a place to chill, this is it. We spent several days during the week just walking around the village and sitting in the piazza. We loved it.
Check In Out:
Antonietta and Theresa were great. They helped us with directions, and even booked cars for us a few times. Check-in was very thorough the book they gave us was a very valuable source of reference and check-out was quick and painless.
Jack, September
Overall:
We had a wonderful time at Casa Toto. The balcony views were unbelievable and the town of Praiano was pleasant-- much less busy in August than Amalfi and Positano. The SITA buses ran pretty close to schedule and we were able to use the system to go to Amalfi, Ravello and Positano.
Enjoyed Most:
The balcony views were stunning. We were able to enjoy dinner on our balcony each evening using a citronella candle to ward off the mosquitoes and breakfast each morning.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room could use one more comfortable chair! The couch only accommodates three comfortably but there are other chairs to use.
Surrounding Area:
There were a couple of nice restaurants and we particularly enjoyed lunch at La Brace. The grocery was close and we had relatively easy access through the bus system to Amalfi, Positano and Ravello and took the ferry from Positano to reach Capri. I would recommend not bringing a car since the driving is quite treacherous on the coast. We used buses and hired a driver for the trip to Pompeii.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The Villa is in the heart of Praiano and the grocery store, restaurants and a beach are all withing walking distance-- although there is a steep hill walk via road or stairs to the villa toughest when you are caring groceries and there is a steep more than 300 steps climb to the nearest beach. Other beaches can be reached by bus.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would recommend day trips to the beach and other towns and then planning to eat dinner in the Villa on the great balcony. You can't beat the view! It was a great week for us on the Amalfi coast and Praiano was much quieter than either Positano or Amalfi.
Directions:
We hired a driver from the Naples train station through Rentvillas.com to take us to the property and return us to the train station the following week. I recommend this highly! Taking the bus would have been tricky with all the luggage.
Check In Out:
The property manager was waiting for us when we arrived and was very helpful in giving us an orientation to the property, Praiano and the surrounding towns. She was also prompt at check out.
Theresa, August
Overall:
We had a great time, however it was a surprise how hard it was to get to anywhere!
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano, it is a walk, partway on the coastl road to get to it, cars and mopeds everywhere.
Tips or Restaurants:
You must be in good shape, with no knee problems.
Alicia, June
Overall:
It was very good. Service from the Italian agent was very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, The balconies and the bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
Some additional decorations on the wall would be nice. It feels fairly spartan. Also basic kitchen supplies would be helpful, such as salt, sugar etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It was in Praiano.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hosteria Il Pinte is the best restaurant in Praiano by a wide margin.
Scott, May
Overall:
We can't say enough wonderful things about our villa and its location in Praiano. It was just up the hill from Bar de Sole which was the gathering place for locals and visitors. We met Gennaro Rispoli the first morning and arranged day trips with him. He was a delight. Turned out his family practically owned the town. He was one of nine children. Either his siblings or nephews ran the restaurants, grocery store and bar and he had Car Service Gennarino.
Enjoyed Most:
The views out every window and balcony were breathtaking. The rooms were very large and beautifully decorated and the kitchen was very well equipped. The washing machine really helped. We washed and hung our clothes out like the Italians.
Surrounding Area:
It was easy to take a bus to all the towns on the Amalfi Coast. Gennaro took us to Sorrento one day and another day he took us to Vesuvius and Pompeii. We also rode the ferry from Positano to Salerno to see the beauty from the water looking up.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were half way in between Positano and Amalfi. Some may be able to walk to either but we had hiked the Cinque Terre and Vesuvius so we opted for the bus or ferry.
Tips or Restaurants:
Casa Toto had everything anyone could want. just bring less clothes and use the washer. I know most people over pack but through the years we have learned to take less and less. We take two changes of clothes plus what we wear and a few extra shirts or blouses for a two week trip.
All the restaurants were excellent and run by someone in Gennaro's family. Our favorites were La Strada and Hosteria il pino.
Directions:
We called the property manager about 30 minutes before arriving at Bar de Sole, our meeting place. The lady who checked us in was also kin to Gennaro.

Overall:
Had a wonderful time exploring the Amalfi coast with Praiano as our base.
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the two decks.
Enjoyed Least:
No towel bars in bathroom to hang up wet towels.
Surrounding Area:
What can you say, it's the Amalfi coast!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Only a 5 min walk to bus stop and grocery store.
Tips or Restaurants:
Several good restaurants in Praiano.
Directions:
Called manager of property and she met us at local bar and took us to property.
Check In Out:
Property manager gave valuable instruction both about the property and using local bus service, restaurants, etc.

Overall:
The location was exactly as advertised!
Enjoyed Most:
The views off of the 2 balconies were sublime. Because it was very hot, the air conditioning was our 2nd favorite feature.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen really had NO supplies: salt, pepper, olive oil, coffee, paper towels, etc.
Surrounding Area:
Lovely, quiet village with plenty of good restaurants within walking distance of the apartment.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano was easily within walking distance although the entire Amalfi coast is hills and steps!
Tips or Restaurants:
Not a new find, but our favorite restaurant was Donna Rosa in Positano

Overall:
Very satisfying experience at Casa Toto. Extremely clean, very nice and responsive property management, and amazing views.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the views and unhurried pace of the surrounding neighborhood. Having two balconies on different sides of the property is a real bonus, so that you can stay out of the blazing sun at different times of the day.
Enjoyed Least:
1. We did not know how to turn on the lights for the pathway-corridor back to Casa Toto, which is very dark at night. There is a switch near our gate which lights up the immediate area, but this does not help during the return, because the timer turns off the light. We had a flashlight, so we were OK. 2. We were unaware that there was no phone, so we had to make do with phone cards and the public phone. 3. There is a woman who lives in an adjoining room - and the walls were thin, so we could hear her talk on the phone and snore!
Surrounding Area:
Very quaint and peaceful, but still has the basic tourist needs--such as taxis and boats for excursions and a great Tourist Information Office.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano has a small downtown area with a grocery store, an Internet cafe, and a few good restaurants. A bigger grocery store is about 500 meters away from Casa Toto.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a flashlight, buy-bring some candles for balcony dining, La Brace is a very good restaurant, bring a international cell phone, use the Tourist Information Office often, as they are very helpful and will tell you if key destinations are closed. Make sure you know how to use the balcony umbrella--the manager was kind enough to show us how to set it up.
Check In Out:
They were very flexible, so early check-in and check-out was managed quite well.

Overall:
The experience was wonderful right from the booking stage. Our trip advisor was just fabulous with assisting us with our enquiries, and nothing was a hassle.
The villa was all and more that we expected...clean, quiet and felt like a home away from home. It gave us the opportunity to fit in and live like a local even if only for one week... we will definitely be recommending the service to our friends and family.
Enjoyed Most:
The cleanliness, and location...not too many steps to get to!
The view was sensational looking over the Tirrenian Sea towards Positano. Very romantic and relaxing.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing - it was perfect!!!
Surrounding Area:
The landscape, clean air and friendly locals. Restaurants were fantastic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Had to catch the bus to Positano. But very regular with their services.
Tips or Restaurants:
Praiano has everything you need if you are looking for a quiet and romantic escape. It is not for those seeking the busy life or night life!
The villa was well equipped with all of the essentials needed for meal preparation.
Directions:
We hired a driver who picked us up at Naples train station.

Overall:
This has to be one of the most amazing vacations I have ever had! The location was perfect, the property wonderful there is little to be negative about. We thought that our time in Tuscany was marvelous - this exceeds it.
Enjoyed Most:
It was beautifully decorated, upscale, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathrooms, plenty of hot water, the two terraces permitted al fresco dining for lunch and dinner while watching the sunset. The views were stupendous! The location was probably the most outstanding but the other mentioned items were very important.
Enjoyed Least:
Having to walk up a pretty steep hill several times a day. We expected the steps to the property, but did not expect the hill that we had to walk up. I would not change it, and I am afraid that if we had known in advance just how tough it was, one of our party might have chosen not to go there.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Praiano as it was centrally located between all the places we wanted to see. We liked that it was not a "resort" village as much as a local village. But the bus transportation was excellent, the Tourist Information most helpful and the town people were wonderful. Although there were other Americans in the town, we did not feel as if we were overrun with them as in Positano and Amalfi.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Positano and it was not within walking distance unless you were a trekker. We did a lot of walking and climbing, from choice, not necessity.
Tips or Restaurants:
We so enjoyed shopping at the local markets, cooking and dining on the terraces that we ate out only one evening at Hotel Margharita which was good, not too pricey and nice atmosphere. But we would have been just as happy dining in.
We ate lunch in various places - Villa Gerranio in Capri, Villa Amore in Ravello were both excellent. We enjoyed the views, the service and the food, but both were a bit pricey. We would suggest that for people who like to cook, there wasn't a good pan for cooking in the oven, no tongs, no good can opener, and no measuring implements. We had brought spices, sharp knives, and cookbooks which we found useful, but not necessary. Be sure to bring your camera patch cord to attach to the TV so you can view your daily pictures.
Directions:
We had arranged transportation to and from the airport and were met at the property by the manager so we really didn't need any directions, although it is always helpful to know where we are going rather than just depending upon the driver. All four of us enjoy following a map and we were not certain exactly where our property was in Praiano. Of course we were taken right there.
Check In Out:
It was helpful to have the property manager show us the apartment and how to use the appliances plus the recycling setup which we tried very hard to follow. It is rather complicated but we were glad to do it. We wish the states had something like this.

Overall:
Awesome. Renting a villa is a nice way to experience the Amalfi coast. Giuseppina, the donna of the house, was extremely helpful and always available.
Enjoyed Most:
The balconies were a beautiful way to relax and enjoy the view.
Enjoyed Least:
While there were not many "steps" per se leading into the property, which may be good for seniors with difficulty walking, the road leading from town to the property was very steep. This makes it still fairly difficult for seniors who want to get out about town and see things. There were a few minor issues with "trick" locks and a loud bathroom door, etc., but we got the hang of it after a couple days. Had it not been for Giuseppina living next door, we would not have been able to figure out how to get in the front door. The property owners may want to consider having locks updated..
Surrounding Area:
The views are breathtaking. Praiano was a good central location for exploring the surrounding towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The main "hub" of Praiano was just a 2 minute walk away downhill - but UPHILL coming back home.
Tips or Restaurants:
For seniors with difficulty walking, climbing stairs, etc., if you just want to sit and soak up sun all day, this type of vacation would be OK. However, if you want to explore the surrounding towns, go out to eat, etc., the Amalfi coast in general will be difficult for you. The buses are a good option, BUT they do not run according to the published schedules. Realistically, expect to wait an hour for each bus, and you may have to stand on the bus, which is usually crowded.
Directions:
We used websites, Google Earth, etc. to find the pre-arranged meeting place. Then, a representative from the property walked us UP to the villa. Overall, the process was very well organized and convenient.

Overall:
We had the best vacation of our lives! The Amalfi Coast was even more beautiful than it looks in pictures. Casa Toto was bigger and nicer then it looks in the photos as well. The views from the patios are fantastic. You can see the town of Praiano and Positano from the patios, and there’s nothing but ocean in front. We had breakfast and coffee every morning on the patios, and would end the day with wine and appetizers or dinner on one of the patios. We usually went out and did excursions during the day – we went to both beaches in Praiano, La Gavitella and La Praia, to Positano, and did 2 boat tours, one to Capri and one along the Amalfi Coast. Praiano was a nice launch pad. A very quiet, laid-back town. Not overrun with tourists. We would usually get groceries and wine at the store at the bottom of the hill, or get fish at the Il Mare fish market. We had no problems communicating with people, even with my minimal Italian. A lot of people speak a little English, and you can use hand gestures for all the rest!
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the 2 patios. The light and the fog weres different every day, so every day the sunset was different and beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The huge 45 degree angle hill that we had to climb to get to Casa Toto. We had to plan our trips into town knowing that whatever we did, we had to climb that hill back to the house. That would limit the amount of groceries we could carry, and it’s quite a hike after dinner and wine.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding areas were great and the bus system was fairly easy to navigate. It was easy to take the local bus to Positano (about 1 euro), shop, eat lunch, arrange boat tours, etc. from there. We had the boat tour operators pick us up in the morning from the La Gavitella beach in Praiano and drop us off in the afternoon in Positano. It’s easier to take the bus back from Positano than to climb the 400+ steps from the La Gavitella beach! We enjoyed the boat tour of the Amalfi Coast which gave us a view of Furore, Amalfi, Atrani, Minori, Maiori and Ravello. It’s all beautiful. We did a trip to Capri on a small speedboat with about 8 other people. That was a wonderful trip, although we found Capri to be a bit too crowded and touristy. We spent our first night in Sorrento, which was great, safe, and beautiful, and our last night in Naples (great museums, but I think I’ll skip Naples next trip).
Nearby Events or Locales:
We enjoyed hanging out in Praiano and going to La Praia beach and the restaurants in town.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would advise anyone who is going to this area when the weather is hot to take a small clip-on fan. We thought we would be able to get by without AC, but we were wrong. It was hotter than expected. It was worth the 70 euros extra to get the AC. We also bought cheap citronella candles for the patios to ward off mosquitoes, and that did the job. We did sleep with the doors closed, however, since we used the AC. Restaurants – We loved the San Gennaro restaurant in Praiano that overlooks the square and the church. They have a very generous seafood salad and a great seafood pizza. We also enjoyed Il Armandino down at La Praia. Very fresh food, and the owner is quite a character. We had drinks on the terrace one evening at Tramonto d’Oro hotel, and they have a spectacular view from their terrace – even better than in the villa. We usually ate lunches out and dinners at the villa. We never had a bad meal the whole trip.
Check in:
The keyholder met us at Bar del Sole and drove us up the hill to the house. I don’t think we would have found it on our own since it’s way back off the beaten path, plus we were so jet-lagged and spaced out at the time of arrival. Check out was smooth and our deposit was refunded on the spot (minus cleaning and AC fee).

Overall:
Our overall experience was great. We were looking for a home away from home but with a view to remember for a lifetime. From the terrace you would see beautiful cruise ships, yachts and sail boats and at night a view of Positano.
Enjoyed Most:
The walk down to the condo was as promised, only 15 steps, and having air conditioning for an extra 70 euros was worth the money. The kitchen was very well equipped and having a washing machine was very handy. The best part of the property were the two terraces. We would have our coffee out there in the morning and dinner in the evening.
Enjoyed Least:
The apartment is big and can easily accommodate four people, but the second room only has curtains in lieu of a door and you must go through either bedroom to get to the terrace. It was great for the two of us.
Parking was sometimes difficult, so I would suggest reserving a parking space if you are driving. There is free parking but it could be a little ways from the Villa during the busy season.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the quiet village since we were able to get fresh fish or sea food every morning and have dinner out on the terrace. It was very central to Positano and Amalfi; 5km either way to nice beaches and shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
A nice place to meet at the end of the day was Bar Del Sole in Praiano, you could have a beer or a glass of wine for only 1.50 euro and the people are very friendly.
Tips or Restaurants:
The list you provided was great. Make sure you bring the insect spray for the terraces. We purchased lemon candles and they worked.
Directions:
Add an extra hour to your travel plans if you are driving. The road around the coast line is a challenge and slow.
