Just off the north coast, the Buck Island Reef National Monument protects and preserves a group of coral reefs, making this area ideal for snorkeling. Fantastic underwater life abounds all around the island, with clear water, tropical fish, and protective bays. Diving companies operate mainly out of Christiansted, the larger of the two towns on the island (the other is Frederiksted). Other water-based activities are also available, as is horseback riding. Although the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport offers a few flights from the continental U.S., the easiest access is by flying in to Saint Thomas and taking one of the regular ferries to Saint Croix..
