About The Experience

An entryway with murals and beautiful views of the Arno await you at this apartment rental in Florence, within walking distance of all the major sights and museums. This Florence accommodation is not simply a place to sleep, but an integral part of your holiday, with lovely decor and room enough to entertain.

Location Description

The palazzo housing this Florence apartment is situated on the south side of the Arno River in the Oltrarno district of Florence. On one side, the accommodation in Florence overlooks the Arno and the Uffizi Gallery, and on the other side, the via de'Bardi. In the neighborhood you'll find food shops, clothing stores, and restaurants.

Nearby Attractions: The Otrarno is the area of Florence that is south of the Arno River. While it contains some of the most famous and characteristic Renaissance buildings, it is also a quarter known for authentic flavor. Here you will find the Santo Spirito Church designed by Brunelleschi, the Santa Maria del Carmine Church with its famous Brancacci Chapel containing Masaccio’s exquisite frescoes, and the Palazzo Pitti. There are magnificent views of Florence from the Forte Belvedere and Piazzale Michelangelo, a prime destination for a gelato or glass of wine while watching the sunset. For those who like quirky, a visit to La Specola Museum, with wax anatomical models from the 18th century, is sure to fascinate. In addition to all of this, the quarter has many fine restaurants and shops, as well as an open-air market in the Piazza Santo Spirito.

Exterior Description

This palazzo dates back to the 15th century, when the banks of the Arno River were flanked by palazzi (palaces) belonging to patrician families such as the Bardis. The edifice was modified over the centuries until the mid-19th century, when a famous architect, Enrico Poggi, endeavored to transform Florence into a capital city. He modeled the palazzo after the Lungarno Torrigiani area in order to maintain the classical renaissance color palette of cream plaster and gray “pietra serena” stone, which is visible in so many buildings throughout the city. A daytime doorman is available and each apartment is made secure with a bell and a buzzer.

Interior Description
(150 m2/1614 ft2)

First Floor (with lift): This is a newly refurbished apartment overlooking the Arno River. The apartment is furnished to a high standard, and has spectacular views. The entrance hall is painted to resemble a clearing in the woods, with cypress trees and birds. A door leads into an airy and spacious living/dining room, decorated in rust, red and green. There is a large sofa and two armchairs, and a dining table that seats six. The window overlooks the river and the city monuments. Opposite the living room is the well-equipped kitchen (4-ring gas cook top and oven) with table and ample work surface. Continuing down the hallway on the left is a bathroom with tub (and hand-held shower head). At the end of the passage are two bedrooms: the master queen bedroom (can be made into two twin-beds on request) on the right has beautiful views over the Arno and a large built-in closet; the second bedroom has a queen bed and faces the Via de' Bardi. It has an ensuite bathroom with shower. The third bedroom has two twin-beds with a small balcony on the river. The street below can be noisy if windows are open; there are no screens.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Very nice apartment - we would recommend it without hesitation.
Enjoyed Most:
Fabulous view across the river to the Uffizi Gallery. Spacious apartment with wonderful amenities and great location. Great view from bedrooms and balcony. Double windows kept traffic noise to a very nominal level.
Enjoyed Least:
Door to second bedroom and second bath did not stay closed. It would be nice to have had more towels. Also, Internet access would have been very nice, especially for an extended stay.
Surrounding Area:
Nice residential neighborhood with good restaurants and interesting shopping. Walking distance to the major attractions.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything you need is available in the neighborhood.

Overall:
I loved it and it was very difficult to come back home.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the beautiful view. You are right in the center of things but at the same time you are far from the noise and crowds. The Arno in all its glory is across the street, the Ufizzi is in front and the Ponte Vecchio is less than half a block away. The sunsets from the Ponte Vecchio are incredible and seeing each sunrise reflected in the Arno from the privacy of your own balcony was quite a luxury.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture could be replaced. All the other rooms in the apartments are beautiful. I loved the bedrooms and the ample kitchen with everything you need. The bathrooms are big and very comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The apartment is in the center of of all the activities without being overwhelming. You are close to all the museums and places of interest and at night you have so many places to go that sometimes it is difficult to make a decision. Many of the activities are free, such as the concerts in St. Stefano, the concerts on the Ponte Vecchio and in the Palazzo Vecchio, and the activities in the Michaelangelo Plaza.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Fiesole. You had to take the bus to get there. Fiesole must be visited, the view is incredible.
Tips or Restaurants:
We took advantage of the weekend rates at Europcar and rented a car for the weekend. On the weekends we would visit the beautiful towns surrounding Florence.

Overall:
It served our needs beautifully.
Enjoyed Most:
Its location.
Enjoyed Least:
Doors to one bedroom and its associated bath would not stay closed.
Surrounding Area:
It's bustle and its access to a part of Florence Oltrarno we might otherwise not have explored.
Tips or Restaurants:
We endorse Mamma Gina in our area - which is in our 2003 guidebook.
Check In Out:
There needed to be written instructions for oven, dishwasher, etc.
