About The Experience

This spacious, high-ceilinged Florence apartment will give you peace and quiet in the midst of a busy city. In the quieter Oltrarno district, this holiday accommodation in Tuscany overlooks an internal courtyard, but step out of the front door and you'll find yourself in the midst of one of the most romantic places on earth and just a few steps away from the Arno River. Explore the Piazza Santo Spirito or head north to the main attractions while renting this Tuscany holiday apartment.

Location Description

The Florence apartment building is located in the Santo Spirito neighborhood in the Oltrarno district, only 100 meters from the Arno River. The apartment is 4 blocks west of the Ponte Vecchio and near the Piazza Santo Spirito, which is characterized by a large number of traditional Italian craft shops and artist studios. There are many shops and restaurants nearby.

Nearby Attractions: The Oltrarno is the area of Florence that is south of the Arno River. While it contains some of the most famous and characteristic Renaissance buildings, it is also a quarter known for authentic flavor. Here you will find the Santo Spirito Church designed by Brunelleschi, the Santa Maria del Carmine Church with its famous Brancacci Chapel containing Masaccio’s exquisite frescoes, and the Palazzo Pitti. There are magnificent views of Florence from the Forte Belvedere and Piazzale Michelangelo, a prime destination for a gelato or glass of wine while watching the sunset. For those who like quirky, a visit to La Specola Museum, with wax anatomical models from the 18th century, is sure to fascinate. In addition to all of this, the quarter has many fine restaurants and shops, as well as an open-air market in the Piazza Santo Spirito.

Customer Reviews

Enjoyed Most:
The property is a prime location, the bridge and its breath taking view of Firenze at night was probably less than a hundred steps away. We enjoyed the original antique quality of the building. It has an elevator when you're tired or overburdened, but we used the staircase all the time; it was interesting and felt authentic. The large front windows opened onto the street which was busy and fun, the ventilation was ideal and we kept the windows open all day. It got a bit chilly at night. The kitchen was also fairly well equipped, and it was fun cooking food from the small shops.
Enjoyed Least:
The second bedroom was so small that the only place to put one's stuff was up in the loft, but if you were using the fold-out bed, there wasn't enough space to do that. The room would have worked for two cozy people, but was definitely stretched for three.
Surrounding Area:
It is just enough out of the way to escape the "touristy" areas, but close enough to access it as desired. The stores, restaurants and people were less hurried and more amenable than the more central locations. You can even refill your wine bottles with local wine for 2-3 Euro at the local wine shop. Remove the old label first.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did not leave Florence except for a day trip to Pisa, which I would recommend. It is about 1 hour on the train and costs about 15 Euros round trip.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do not take any more people than the bed count. The fold out bed was uncomfortable, especially for more than 1 night, and we stayed 15 nights. The bed in the master suite was very comfortable.

Overall:
We were overall very pleased, however I think the renters before were smokers, so our room smelled of smoke. Luckily I always bring traveling candles so the smell only lasted a few days. It was a great stay in Florence! I would definitely go back to this same rental!
Enjoyed Most:
Location, it was absolutely perfect, walking distance from everything we wanted to see, and to markets. We had our 10 month old with us.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room area was really loud, but since there were door to separate each section, it didn't bother our baby! Also, the washing machine was really difficult to run, a wash cycle lasted for like an hour and our clothes never got fully dried. HOWEVER- there was a laundromat very near by which we found very convenient!
Surrounding Area:
Close to all great sightseeing, markets, dining!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Oltrano- yes- 5 minutes!
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved this restaurant Borgo San Jacopo, I believe it was a recommendation- absolutely delicious and beautiful for a romantic dinner! Everything was around if you needed something, pharmacy, markets, restaurants...it was perfect, just bring yourself!
