About The Experience

Not only is this apartment really well located near the Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, but there is a terrace for outside dining! The central location means that it is noisy, but the proximity to so much to see and do more that makes up for it.

Location Description

This apartment is located in Rome near the Piazza Navona. The network of picturesque lanes and streets between Piazza Navona and the Tiber River recalls the splendor of the Papal area in the heart of Renaissance Rome. In the beginning of the 16th century, cardinals, ambassadors, papal officials, wealthy bankers, and distinguished courtesans took up residence here. Intellectual life flourished; booksellers, engravers, and miniaturists settled around the Piazza Navona and Piazza Pasquino, and today there are still numerous craftsmen to be found in the area. Other tourist destinations in the surrounding area include the Area Sacra del Largo Argentina, the Pantheon, and Piazza di Spagna. The apartment is a ten minute walk from the underground station “Spagna,” and it is served by the ATAC bus lines and the electric bus lines.

Nearby Attractions: A monument to Roman Baroque style, the Piazza di Spagna is one of the best people-watching spots in Rome. Around the piazza are several very well-known tea rooms including the famous Babington’s English Tea Room and the Café Greco. The house where English poets John Keats and Lord Byron lived and died, is on the right hand corner, as one begins to climb the 138 steps. This is an ideal neighborhood for shopping (or window shopping) at famous boutiques such as Prada, Valentino, and Gucci (Via dei Condotti).

Enjoyed Most:
The location is excellent for walking to most of the major sites of the city.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise from the video game parlor directly below the apartment made sleeping difficult or impossible until it closed at about 2:00am most nights. Editor's Note: Double paned windows have just been installed. January 2007.
Surrounding Area:
It is in the heart of one of the oldest sections of Rome, with wonderful Medieval atmosphere. A large selection of restaurants within walking distance. We rented in the winter so the lovely terrace was unfortunately not usable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring ear plugs, and slippers for walking the brick floors. Da Francesco, a typical Roman trattoria and pizzeria, is literally a stone's throw from the apartment. Great place, cash only. There is a good food store about a hundred feet down the street where you can get anything you need from fresh bread to pasta. Across the street is a laundry which is fairly reasonably priced for Rome and can have things ready the next afternoon.
Directions:
Take a taxi or from the airport.
