About The Experience

This spacious, restored 12th-century Templar fort sets the stage for an unforgettable vacation with friends or family with older children. With the world-class cycling roads of Mont Ventoux nearby, this is a great getaway for avid cyclists. Set on nine acres and just a short walk from the local village, the chateau is equipped with a pool, all-weather tennis court, gym and cinema room.

Location Description

The chateau is a 5-minute walk from the lovely village of Villedieu and only 6 kilometers from Vaison-la-Romaine, with its bustling market, Roman ruins and summertime cultural events. Mont Ventoux, one of the most famous locations in professional cycling, is 20 kilometers away, and the surrounding area offers some of the best roads to cycle in the world. Wine lovers will want to visit the villages of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which produce the best Côtes du Rhône wines. There is an equestrian centre just 10 minutes away, and a little further afield is the Gorges de l'Ardèche, where there are canoeing and kayaking opportunities. Well-known places such as Orange, with its antique Roman theater and opera festival; Arles and its Roman arenas; Avignon, with its Palais des Papes and theatre festival, are all less than 1 hour from the chateau.

Exterior Description

The chateau is situated on a hillside amidst olive groves and vineyards, just below the charming village of Villedieu, and offers panoramic views of the northern Provencal countryside. There are two courtyards, the main one has stairs leading to a summer room which overlooks the pool and has been arranged with a sitting area and a dining area with its own summer kitchen and charcoal barbecue. The large swimming pool (15 m x 8 m) includes a hydro-jet injection system, and there is an outdoor shower. There is also a private, all-weather tennis court with rackets and balls, and off-street parking for 8 or more cars.

Stone walls keep the chateau cool in the summer, and indoor fireplaces keep it warm in winter.

Ground Floor: An entrance hall with a cloakroom leads to the reception rooms. There is a large double living room, one side has a sofa and three armchairs, the other side has three small sofas and a fireplace. There is another large living area with a sofa, two armchairs, fireplace, TV, DVD player, dining table for 6 and doors to the terrace. There is also a cinema room with a large DVD collection, as well as an office with a fireplace and a library/game room. The large kitchen is equipped with a Lacanche range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, blender, food processor and Nespresso machine. There is also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, plus a gym with a rowing machine, stretching area, full collection of Ivanko free weights with benches and cage.

First Floor: There are eight bedrooms, two in the south wing and six in the east wing. The first bedroom, located in the south wing, is a master with a king-size bed (180 cm), TV, and ensuite bathroom with shower, bathtub, sink and toilet. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, bathtub, sink and toilet. In the east wing, the third and fourth bedrooms each have a queen-size bed (160 cm) and ensuite bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The fifth bedroom has two single beds (90 cm each) and ensuite bathroom with a shower, bathtub, sink and toilet. The sixth bedroom has a queen-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. The seventh bedroom has a queen-size bed (160 cm), a mezzanine with two single beds (90 cm each) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. The eighth bedroom has a queen-size bed (160 cm), a mezzanine with a single bed (90 cm) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet.

• There is an English-speaking "Meet & Greet" upon arrival.
• Children must be 15 years or older to stay at the chateau.
• All bedrooms have a large fan and window screens.
• Three bicycles are available, and more can be rented for an additional cost.
• Three hairdryers are available.
• Chateau caretakers live in an independent house on the estate.
• An additional bedroom is kept available in the caretakers’ house for visiting staff.
• Household and bed linen are provided, as well as pool towels.
• Housekeeping is provided for 3 hours every morning, Monday through Saturday. Additional Housekeeping can be arranged for an additional fee.
