Location Description

The largest of the US Virgin Islands, St. Croix is home to beautiful white sand beaches and some of the most unique diving and snorkeling experiences of all its neighboring islands. The villa is in the private, gated Estate Shoys on the northeast side. There are endless activities to fill your days from hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, sailing, water sports, fishing, turtle watching, golf, and tennis. The island hosts several year-round festivals including the famous Mango Melee in July, the weeklong St. Croix Food and Wine Experience in April, and several music festivals. There are two towns on the island; lively Christiansted and low-key Frederiksted. Christiansted—known for its historic yellow buildings and Danish architecture—is more active day and night with a bustling boardwalk and marina, shops, several fine restaurants, historic churches, boutiques, galleries, and cafes. Frederiksted is decidedly more quite and relaxed with a beautiful waterfront, charming Victorian buildings, and a small white sand beach Butler Bay.
You can reach the island by plane via the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport—which also services flights between St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and other Caribbean Islands. Ferries at Christiansted run to Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas—with connections to St. John and other British Virgin Islands.

Nearby Attractions: Take a tour of Buck Island—one of only three underwater US national monuments. The white sandy beach is surrounded by a coral reef, teeming with underwater life and several underwater trails for snorkeling. Six National Park Service contracted concessionaires offer trips the Island. Cane Bay Beach has a good stretch of sand, moderate waves, and is great for diving and snorkeling. There is a full service dive shop nearby and several restaurants. Visit the Cruzan Rum Distillery for a tour of the old rum factory—the only historic distillery still producing rum on the island; $5. St. George’s Botanical Gardens situated among the ruins of a sugar plantation the gardens consist of 16 acres containing over 1000 species of local plants and trees. There is also the quaint Divi Casino at Carina Bay featuring primarily slot machines and electronic games with a few card tables.

Recently completed in 2006, this Danish Colonial-inspired villa is situated on a little hill in the gated Estate Shoys neighborhood—there is a private drive and parking. There are nightly patrols in the neighborhood, as well. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with tropical plants. There is a covered terraced with seating areas and an alfresco dining area that looks out over the pool and the Caribbean in the distance. The pool (20ft x 40ft) is lined with sunbeds and has a sun deck.
Interior Description

Ground Floor: Through the entry and foyer you’ll find the living room furnished with heirloom antiques, built-in shelving with leather bound books, original paintings—throughout the villa is decorated to reflect the colonial exterior. The floors throughout are stone and Peruvian cherry. The adjoining formal dining room seats 8. Beyond this is the gourmet kitchen, outfitted with the most modern appliances, along with a breakfast dining area, commercial ice-maker, Sub-Zero refrigerator, pull out freezer drawers, and beverage cooler. The kitchen opens onto the furnished patio where you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee.

First Floor: A staircase leads to the villa’s three suites and a library with historical artifacts. The master suite has a private sitting room with century-old antiques, a large blue granite en-suite bath finished with a tiled shower, and a West Indian four-poster California king-sized bed. The next suite has a queen-sized bed and en-suite bathroom with shower. The third suite has two twin-sized beds (can be arranged as a king upon prior request) and en en-suite bathroom with shower. All three suites have air-conditioning as well as cross ventilation provided by pocket French doors and screened sliders to allow for sea breezes to pass through. Each suite also has access to the upstairs covered verandas.

Guest House: Adjacent to the pool is a charming fully-air conditioned guesthouse with a living area and a suite with a king-sized bed and en-suite bathroom with shower.

Everyone departing the United States Virgin Islands, including U.S. Citizens, is now required by U.S. Immigration to show either a valid passport or a certified copy of a birth certificate accompanied by a photo ID. The islands are a “port of entry” to the U.S. mainland – so please don’t forget these for the whole family. You also need them if you plan to visit any of the British Virgin Islands during your stay, even if it is just a day trip.
  • Tourist Tax (Payable upon Arrival): 1-5 USD per person per day
