About The Experience

Within the Chianti region of Tuscany, this beautifully restored farmhouse near the charming town of Certaldo has characteristic wood-beamed ceilings, a spacious garden and a private pool overlooking the surrounding hills. It is easy to explore nearby San Gimignano and Siena from this convenient location, or hop the train in Certaldo to spend a day in Florence.

Location Description

Located seven kilometers away from this farmhouse is Certaldo, which has all the necessities combined with small-town charm. Pick up groceries or eat out in the modern section and spend time exploring Certaldo Alta, the old medieval village accessed by a funicular. In July, you may find yourself in the midst of a lively Renaissance festival, complete with street artists, actors, musicians, and more. And don't forget to get your fill of medieval architecture! You can explore the Pretorio Palace or marvel at the profile Certaldo castle cuts across the sky. Like museums? Visit the house of Giovanni Boccaccio (author of the Decameron). There is a convenient train station in town for visits to Florence (much the best way to go!). San Gimignano, Siena and the Chianti region are all good Day trips from this location. Pisa and Florence airports are easy arrival points where you can rent a car.

Nearby Attractions: The Chianti region is known for its “Chianti Classico” wine. Greve in Chianti, with its triangular shaped piazza has a great wine museum. Panzano’s old town is perfect for taking walks and the town has several wine bars and restaurants which offer wine tasting. In Castellina in Chianti, walk Via delle Volte, which is an underground tunnel around the city. The medieval towns of Radda and Gaiole offer tourists many castles to visit including the Castle of Volpaia, Castle of Vertine and the Castle of Meleto.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Maybe the best vacation ever. Great location, near train station, markets and easy road access to many small Tuscan cities and town. Great history and very friendly people. We were there a month. Plenty of relaxed time, but lots to do as well. Can't say enough. Also the sister of the owner is the cook...which we would highly recommend.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location. It was hot...great infinity pool looking over the Tuscan mountains and valleys. Plenty of room for 8 people, but you'll spend most of your time there outside.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a little "buggy". No air, but it cooled at night to the mid 60's. You would absolutely need a car.
Surrounding Area:
Many, many small Italian towns and villages. You got a feeling like you lived there.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo; it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
RentVillas had a great list of what to bring. The tram to Certaldo Alto is also a fun easy way to get there.
Directions:
Don't try to drive there at night the first time. We used an app the came with the iPhone...but there are a lot of areas where there is no service. Take travelers to Certaldo proper and go from there. Our directions seemed confusing...but we were tired and it was dark. The GPS would sometimes tell you to turn on a certain road by it's Italian name and you passed it or couldn't see it in the dark.
Check In Out:
We missed our connection in Frankfurt. The owner of the villa picked up our son at the train station, took him grocery shopping and to the villa. They are the nicest people we've ever met.
