- About The Experience
-
Located in the heart of the Chianti, this farmhouse is situated on a beautiful and renowned wine estate that offers more than the typical Tuscan experience. Not only are there panoramic views of the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, but there is also the perk of being able to taste wine produced right on the estate. Throughout your stay you will be welcomed by an extremely helpful staff at the reception who can assist you or make recommendations for activities during your trip to Italy.
- Location Description
-
The property is located five kilometers from Castellina in Chianti where there are a good number of shops, restaurants, and markets as well as a pharmacy, post office, and tourist information center. Known for its great wines, Castellina in Chianti is a medieval village that was once on the front lines of the wars between Florence and Siena. Today, the old fort in the central square is home to the municipal offices, and the covered gallery has become the magnificent Via delle Volte. Other sights in town include the Castello (which exhibits Etruscan artifacts), the 16th century church of San Salvatore, and its 14th century fresco of the Madonna by Bicci di Lorenzo. Of course you’ll also want to organize a few day trips to some of the other great cities in the area, including Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence.

Overall:
We had a terrific time there. There was ample rooom and everything was very well prepared and clean for our arrival.
The staff was very helpful too.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool area and the kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
The laundry machines were disappointing; the cycle was quite long.
Additionally, there were some problems in some of the bathrooms with leaky plumbing. Editor's Note: All plumbing issues have been resolved. April, 2015
Surrounding Area:
Picturesque. Peaceful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina Scalo and no, you had to drive there.
Tips or Restaurants:
A good kitchen knife and surprisingly enough, cork screw. Editor's Note The kitchen has been equipped with two cork screws. April, 2015

Overall:
The location of the property was perfect, the countryside around the property was lovely.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen was well equipped.
Enjoyed Least:
Lighting was lacking, especially in the kitchen area. A bench or hooks in the bathroom would be helpful.
Surrounding Area:
The fact that you were in the countryside and we had crops all around us.
Tips or Restaurants:
For the most part we ate at the Farmhouse.
Toilet paper, soap, and dish detergent are a must.
Directions:
We did use a GPS.

Overall:
I would highly recommend this property and I would love to have stayed longer. Given the opportunity I would love to return to it. The owner told us that the week we were there was the last of their rental season and offered to let us stay a few days longer than the original week at no charge. I would have liked to take them up on their offer, but our schedule did not allow it.
If you are looking for a wonderful peaceful vacation in Tuscany, this is the place to be!
Enjoyed Most:
The location was wonderful. The peace and quiet of the area was exceptional. The size of the rooms in the villa was amazing. Everything was in great condition and the owner even had a fire burning in the living room upon our arrival, since it was a chilly day. They also provided two bottles of their own estate wine and a bottle of their estate olive oil. The infinity pool was beautiful. Although it was too cold to get in, it was wonderful sitting by the pool side sipping wine and eating cheese.
Enjoyed Least:
It is hard to identify what was liked least since the whole place was way beyond expectations. The only thing I can think of is that the kitchen could use some more lighting and a proper oven (there was a 6-burner cook top) would be an advantage. But neither of these things detracted in any significant way from our stay.
Surrounding Area:
The little hill towns in the vicinity were great to visit. Castellina in Chianti is just down the road and has much to offer from good restaurants and good views to basic shopping essentials. The wine shops got a lot of our business.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Castellina in Chianti. It is not within walking distance but you can drive there in 5 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is generally very well equipped. However, the basic essentials need to be provided by the occupant - soap, shampoo, condiments, etc. It would be nice if the owner would leave some of those things behind from previous occupants, as was the case in another villa that we rented.
Driving further down the dirt road from the property for a few kilometers, you will find a very small sign labeled Olive Garden. Apparently this is a training location for Olive Garden chefs and it is a part of a resort hotel. Although we did not dine there, the restaurant looks very good. It was amazing to find this out in the middle of no where.
Check In Out:
Iolanda, who is the key holder, does not speak any English. So arranging with her our time of arrival was a little confusing. Eventually, we got a call back from her nephew who did speak English and everything worked out fine.
