You can also explore the Alpujarras, a series of mountain villages, Moorish Castles, as well as the Sierra Nevada ski resort. From sun and sea to skiing all in one day! The area around this holiday villa in Andalusia enjoys a sub-tropical climate, allowing for year-round enjoyment of the great outdoors. If you want to relax, this Andalucia villa offers you beautiful views of the beach and sea, plus the communal areas of the private residential community, which include two pools and a tennis court.
Location Description

This wonderful villa rental in Spain is located in a quiet, hillside community of villas. Within the community there is a large shared pool (open year round - not heated), children's pool, playground, tennis court, and table tennis. These villas are characterized by the wonderful views of the sea and the village of Salobrena, where there is a Moorish castle and a lovely old-town area that is great to explore on foot. The town has various grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurants, cafes, and a post office. Motril, the closest large city, has a large supermarket, hospital, and a golf course. It takes only 40 minutes to reach the wonderful university town of Granada and the Alhambra. There is also the colorful Albaycin, the old Moorish part of town, located above the city, where the gypsies now live, and where you can go to cave dwellings to enjoy an impromptu flamenco performance. The Albaysin still has its original narrow cobblestone streets and large “carmens”, traditional homes with patios and wonderful views toward the Alhambra. It is even possible to enjoy a meal in one of the “carmens”. The area is best explored on foot. There is a little mini-van that runs constantly from the Alhambra or the center of Granada up to the Albaycin. Another destination is Almunecar, which is famous for its Roman ruins, the fresh fish market, the Friday market, and the variety of beaches. There is a nice long beach promenade that is wonderful for walks or bike rides. Nerja is another lovely coastal town, which is famous for its caves. There is an annual music festival that is held there in mid-July. The center of Malaga, with its Picasso museum, is only 90km away. While the Granada airport is the closest to the villa, there are more frequent and affordable flights to Malaga. For arrivals by train, there is a train station in Granada.

Nearby Attractions: Due to the temperate climate there are any number of outdoor activities possible and available in the area, including tennis, golf, all water sports, horseback riding, biking, walking, rock climbing, day trips to Salobrena, Granada, Almunecar, Nerja, Malaga, to name a few. There are a wide variety of beaches close to the villa, with the closest only 5 minutes away. There is even a naturalist beach in a nearby national park, where it is often possible to spot mountain goats. You can also explore the Alpujarras, a series of mountain villages, among which is the town of Lanjaron, famous for its thermal baths and spa. Pampaniera is also a lovely town with interesting shops and restaurants. This area is known for its locally made wine and dried ham. In addition, between December and April, you can ski at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, which is only 75 minutes away.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Loved the property! The view was outstanding and could be seen from the bedrooms as well as the common areas. It was very peaceful and quiet during the day. It was in a great location for exploring other areas to the east, west, and north. We would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
The terraces were outstanding, wrapping the villa on three sides with seating on all three sides so you could have sun or shade, whichever you chose at any time of day. It was nice to have the built-in barbecue out there as well and two tables.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes were out in the evening and during the night and would manage to come inside. Mosquito netting was supplied but we didn't notice it until the end of the stay. Dogs barked during the night. The mattress and linens need to be upgraded in the master bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
Enjoyed exploring the surrounding villages. Went to Gibraltar and Monacco as well as Spanish towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Salobrena was a seven-minute drive down a switch-back road. It was a very good road with no traffic passing other beautiful villas. We didn't mind that we couldn't walk to town as the view was so spectacular.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was no bar soap in the showers or wash cloths. Go to Nerja, a must!
Directions:
The directions were very good. We didn't use a GPS.
Check In Out:
Check-in and check-out were very easy.

Overall:
We really enjoyed our stay very much.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was sensational. The patios were all wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
We felt that the linens in the master bedroom could be updated The rest of the villa was lovely. As we were there for two weeks, we also would have appreciated some cleaning and change of linens and towels at the beginning the second week.
Surrounding Area:
The area was lovely and fairly quiet. Our villa was so high up, with very easy parking for our car. There were lots of places to explore near the villa. We loved the town of Nerja.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Salobrena. It was not within walking distance, but because we were so high up on the mountain, nothing would be within walking distance.
Directions:
It took us a couple of attempts to find our villa. After that, we were fine. We didn't use a GPS - only the map that was given to us.
Check In Out:
Check in was very easy, with picking up the keys at the Best Western. The cleaning person stopped by a day early and suggested that we just leave the keys on the table, so checking out was very easy.

Overall:
It was wonderful! The house was clean, well maintained and the views were breathtaking!
Enjoyed Most:
The views!
Enjoyed Least:
The only thing that we would have liked was to sleep with the sliding door open in the master bedroom. It got a bit stuffy in there, even with the fan on. The breeze was wonderful, but there was a hole in the screen and the bugs came in!
Surrounding Area:
It was great! We did many day trips to the towns in the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Salobrena was the closest and we needed a car to get there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the restaurant in Salobrena, where you can cook your own steak on a hot stone at the table. La piedra de carne. It is down by the beach. The house was well equipped with everything from maps to a cooler and beach chairs. We found the place to be very comfortable and well stocked.
